No. 7 Hawks cruise past BGM for 12th straight win

Feb. 1—BROOKLYN — Thanks to a fast start, the Lynnville-Sully boys' basketball team recorded its 12th straight win on Tuesday.

The Class 1A No. 7 Hawks won the battle on the glass and committed only seven turnovers during a 74-39 victory over BGM in South Iowa Cedar League action.

Lynnville-Sully led 18-2 after one quarter and outscored the Bears 42-27 in the second half.

"We played a solid first quarter to create a gap," L-S head boys' basketball coach Nick Harthoorn said. "I liked the way we shared the basketball on some of our fast breaks. Having 20 assists and only seven turnovers is a great ratio for us."

Klayton Van Dyke registered 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks and Dawson James finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and two assists to lead the Hawks.

Mitchell Miller had 13 points, Keegan DeWitt tallied nine points, three rebounds and two steals and Corder Noun Harder collected nine points and four assists.

Carson Maston powered the bench with seven points and eight rebounds, Lucas Sieck registered five rebounds, four assists and three steals, Hendrick Lowry grabbed two boards and dished out two assists and Jack Bowlin scored three points.

The Hawks (17-1, 14-1) shot 47.6 percent from the floor, made 6-of-20 from 3-point range and connected on 8-of-16 from the free-throw line. They out-rebounded BGM 43-33.

Beau Burns led the Bears (7-11, 5-9) with eight points and eight rebounds. BGM shot 28.3 percent from the floor, made 2-of-19 from 3 and connected on 7-of-11 from the foul line.
