No. 5 Duncanville pulls away from Rockwall Lady Jackets in area playoff

Feb. 17—FORNEY — Rockwall hung tough with No. 5 state-ranked Duncanville for a half before giving way in a 72-35 Class 6A area girls basketball playoff loss on Thursday night.

The Lady Jackets led 14-10 after one quarter and stayed within eight points by halftime (32-24).

But Duncanville took charge in the third quarter, outscoring Rockwall 21-3 to stretch out to a 53-27 lead and then kept rolling in the fourth quarter to go 30-4 for the season.

The Pantherettes, who are 11-time state champions, advanced to the third round to play 20-15 Mansfield Lake Ridge, a 48-43 area winner over Mesquite Horn. Duncanville won its bi-district playoff 100-35 over Hutto. The third-round game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday at Mansfield Timberview.

Rockwall finished the season at 22-13. The Lady Jackets beat Wylie East 43-35 in the bi-district round.

Chloe Mann led the victors with 17 points. Mariah Clayton and Kaylinn Kemp both tossed in 16 points.
