No. 4 Colorado rolls past Oregon for 20th win

The No. 4 Colorado women’s basketball team started the weekend right on Friday night as the Buffs blitzed the Oregon Ducks, 90-57.

Colorado’s offense was firing on all cylinders, as Oregon’s zone defense was no match for the Buffaloes’ pass-happy attack. Coming into Friday averaging about 19 assists per game, the Buffs produced an eye-popping 32 assists on 36 made shots against Oregon.

Three players had at least six assists: Jaylyn Sherrod and Maddie Nolan each had six while Kindyll Wetta led the way with seven. The Buffaloes also set a program record with 19 total assists in the first half.

CU head coach JR Payne was asked about the assist total after the game:

“Everyone has bought into the idea of share the ball until we find the best shot we can get,” Payne said. “No one is forcing anything — just play great basketball, do your job, move off of the line of the defense.”

Colorado secured its 20th win of the season and remains in first place in the Pac-12 at 10-2.

Nolan was en fuego from 3, hitting five of her nine attempts and leading the team with 19 points. Four other Buffs scored in the double-figures as well: Frida Formann, Aaronette Vonleh and Quay Miller each had 12, and Tameiya Sadler came off the bench to add 11. Miller also pulled in 11 rebounds to secure a double-double.

CU will wrap up its two-game homestand on Sunday against No. 17 Oregon State at noon MT (Pac-12 Network).
