No. 12 Michigan State dominates No. 13 Ohio State in Big Ten opener

Michigan State hockey went on the road to open up Big Ten play on Friday night, traveling to Columbus for a date with the No. 13 Buckeyes from Ohio State.

The Spartans weren’t phased one bit, dominating the Buckeyes, 6-0, winning the first Big Ten game of the season.

Gavin O’Connell opened the scoring for MSU, scoring two goals in the first period, giving MSU a 2-0 lead. The next two goals came from Spartan first liners Isaac Howard and Karsen Dorwart.

Up 4-0, two Spartans followed with their first career goals. Tommi Mannisto and Owen Baker found the back of the net, sealing the win for MSU.

Trey Augustine secured his first career shutout in the green and white in a 34-save effort.

These two teams will square off again Saturday night.
