No. 1-ranked RCTC women barely avoid upset at the hands of Anoka-Ramsey

Jan. 24—COON RAPIDS — The Rochester Community and Technical College women's basketball team was nearly dealt its first loss of the conference season.

No. 1-ranked and defending champion RCTC avoided that with a strong second half in coming up with a 58-54 win in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference game against Anoka-Ramsey.

The Yellowjackets trailed 33-28 at haftime, then outscored Anoka-Ramsey 21-10 in the third quarter.

Freshman point guard Macaya Copeland scored 24 points for RCTC, hitting 9 of 15 field-goal attempts. She was 3-for-4 from 3-point range and also had four steals and five rebounds.

Jada James added 10 points while Cassidy Shute and Aniyah Reuben each had nine.

Alani Pettis scored 17 points for Anoka-Ramsey.

RCTC struggled as a team from 3-point distance, hitting just 4 of 23 attempts. It shot 33% from the field overall. It was also outrebounded 38-35.

It won the turnover battle 23-17.
