Is the NIT next? Arkansas’ regular season ends in SEC Tourney against No. 1 South Carolina

Next comes the waiting.

The Arkansas women’s basketball team can now only do that as their postseason possibilities are one of two after the team fell Friday in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament to South Carolina, the top-ranked team in the country, 93-66.

South Carolina led by 15 points at halftime as Arkansas struggled to handle the defending national champions. The Gamecocks outrebounded Arkansas 51-26 and outshot the Hogs 54% to 33%.

Arkansas finished the regular season 21-12 and 7-9 in SEC regular-season play. Those records put the Razorbacks squarely on the bubble. Or, more likely, off the bubble.

ESPN Bracketlogist Charlie Creme suggested during the game’s telecast that the Razorbacks would be out of the NCAA Tournament had the result against the Gamecocks held. If Arkansas doesn’t make the Big Dance, the Hogs would likely be favorites in the Women’s NIT.

The NCAA Tournament selection show will be held March 12. The men’s bracket will be unveiled at 6 p.m. on CBS and the women’s will be unveiled at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

More Arkansas basketball!
