Nighttime drivers on I-5 through Tacoma can expect delays this week
Nighttime drivers can expect overnight closures to I-5 lanes and ramps this week as crews continue to work on the new East L Street bridge in Tacoma.
Construction crews are installing temporary wood forms that help build the permanent bridge deck on the bridge structure, according to the state Department of Transportation.
Here’s what drivers need to know:
Monday and Tuesday
▪ Northbound I-5 exit 134 to Portland Avenue will close from 11 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. Tuesday.
▪ Two right lanes of northbound I-5 will close from East McKinley Way to Port of Tacoma Road from 11:30 p.m. Monday to 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Tuesday
▪ Southbound I-5 exit 135 to Bay Street/Portland Avenue will close from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday
▪ The State Route 167 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
▪ Two left lanes of northbound I-5 will again close from East McKinley Way to Port of Tacoma Road from 11:30 p.m. Wednesday until 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
Thursday
▪ Once more, two left lanes of northbound I-5 will close from East McKinley Way to Port of Tacoma Road from 11:30 p.m. Thursday until 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Saturday morning
▪ Two lanes of southbound I-5 will again close from Port of Tacoma Road to East McKinley Way from 1:30 a.m. to 6 a.m.
