Nicklas Backstrom thinks 'everything' can improve against Islanders originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Capitals are facing off against the New York Islanders Tuesday night, in their first matchup since the Islanders eliminated the Caps in the first round of the NHL postseason in 2020.
Of course, it was anything but a normal postseason experience, thanks to the NHL bubble format due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But still, it wasn't a series the Caps were expecting to lose. And they know they need to be better this time around to earn a point or two against the Islanders.
"I think everything," veteran Nicklas Backstrom answered when asked on Capitals Pregame Live on NBC Sports Washington ahead of the rematch what he thought they had to do better to avoid a similar fate.
"We had a tough one there against the Islanders, so I think everything can be better. And with the new system the coaching staff brought in, I think they will see a new Caps today."
The Islanders won the postseason series in just five games, ending the Caps' time in the playoff bubble early. It won't make up for the postseason loss, but the Caps can start to avenge that experience on Tuesday night at home - for real this time - against the visiting Islanders.
