Everybody has an opinion on the Houston Astros these days. Being disappointed or upset doesn’t really stand out anymore. You know what does? Thinking everybody on the Astros needs a “beating.”
Those are the words of Atlanta Braves outfield Nick Markakis, a 14-MLB veteran who is generally respected around the league. If he’s mad at you, well, you done messed up. Like mild-mannered Mike Trout speaking out, getting someone with Markakis’ rep to all the Astros need a “beating” is enough for a double-take.
He told reporters Tuesday: “I feel like every single guy over there needs a beating.” Whether that’s an on-the-field pummelling in a baseball game (that’s probably safest), getting hit by opposing pitchers (the Astros are worried about that) or a whooping you’d get from your parents when you get in trouble, it’s not entirely clear. But here’s what Markakis said, via 680 The Fan in Atlanta:
Beyond the “beating” part, Markakis also took aim at MLB’s punishment of the Astros, saying commissioner Rob Manfred handled this “the wrong way.”
“They got off pretty easy,” Markakis said. “They’re going to be able to go out there and compete with no ramifications at all, which is wrong. I think the commissioner completely handled it the wrong way, but that’s the way he did it.”
