"It's going to be a nice clash with two of the best European, or even global, teams, that's for sure. We will be able to evaluate our current strength, since we will again meet for the away match next month at their home turf, and then again later in the month June (2021), that's planned."

5. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM COACH, DIDIER DESCHAMPS, SAYING:

"I don't think that we'll have a weakened Portugal team, it's quite the opposite. We've got two very nice teams, and Portugal has the European championship title, they've won the last Nations League, too. They're one of the best teams, and most of the players that usually go in the field are here and will be there tomorrow."

7. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM CAPTAIN, HUGO LLORIS, SAYING:

"It (France's loss to Portugal in Euro 2016 final) is a painful memory, but that's in the past. Tomorrow is a whole other match, a whole new context, with the stakes being that we could finish first in our pool. It's true that Portugal, as the champion of all of Europe, is also the winner of the last edition of the Nations League. But we ourselves have travelled, we won the World Cup. So tomorrow, it will be a great, great match."

9. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FRENCH NATIONAL SOCCER TEAM CAPTAIN, HUGO LLORIS, SAYING:

"He (Cristiano Ronaldo) is an all-around player, he's capable of doing anything. Most of all, he has this ability of being an integral player, quite often, maybe even in every match. I have a lot of admiration, respect for this player, for his entire career, for his longevity, for all his records. His a one-of-a-kind player, and of course, when he's in the opposing team, he remains a threat. Now, as usual, we will try to respond to that collectively and make sure to so our best to win this match."

10. TRAINING IN PROGRESS

STORY: France coach Didier Deschamps on Saturday (October 10) described his side's UEFA Nations League group match against Portugal as a 'nice clash' between 'two of the best European' teams.

The world champions host the reigning Nations League winners on Sunday at Stade de France in a repeat of the 2016 Euros final, which the Portuguese won 1-0.

Both are unbeaten heading into the Group 3 encounter, with Portugal top on goal difference and on the back of a 0-0 draw in a friendly international against Spain on Wednesday, while France demolished a coronavirus-stricken Ukraine 7-1.

"It's going to be a nice clash with two of the best European, or even global, teams, that's for sure.", said Deschamps

"I don't think that we'll have a weakened Portugal team. We've got two very nice teams, and Portugal has the European championship title and they've won the last Nations League, too."
