Jamie Drysdale settling in with Flyers after shock trade from Ducks

Jamie Drysdale was in a daze as he listened to the voice on the other end of the line. California dreaming with a franchise he thought would be home for a long time, the defenceman — an offensive talent taken No. 6 at the 2020 NHL draft, but hampered by injury early in his career — had just been shipped across the continent by the Anaheim Ducks in a high-profile trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. The stunning swap that saw Drysdale head east along with a 2025 second-round pick for disgruntled forward Cutter Gauthier — the fifth overall selection in 2022 unwilling to sign with the Flyers — on Jan. 8 made waves around hockey. There was plenty of gossip and innuendo about why Gauthier, who had just helped the United States win gold at the world junior hockey championship, wanted out of Philadelphia.

4 players not at practice as Flyers prepare for Maple Leafs, then Stadium Series

Owen Tippett, Jamie Drysdale, Rasmus Ristolainen and Tyson Foerster were not on the ice for the Flyers' practice Wednesday.

The Flyers hope Jamie Drysdale and Cam York's friendship off the ice leads to chemistry on it

Jamie Drysdale and Cam York walked into the Flyers locker room at Amerant Bank Arena and gave each other a look, a little giggle, and a big smile. There on the whiteboard for the team's second practice in South Florida were the Nos. With John Tortorella at the helm, there are no guarantees they will officially hit the ice on Tuesday together when the Flyers play the Florida Panthers (7 p.m. on NBCSP).
