    EBR Literacy Blueprint showing positive results

    It's no secret that students in Louisiana and East Baton Rouge Parish have struggled with literacy for years. Last summer, less than half of students were meeting their grade level average reading skills. A new blueprint aimed at bumping literacy levels in East Baton Rouge Parish schools is trying to change that. “If a student can't read by the third grade, they won't have a chance to graduate on time,” EBR Chief of Literacy Shenoa Warren said.

    The Erie County Legislature has remedied a long-standing problem by approving an agreement governing the cost of security at KeyBank Center. For that, taxpayers can thank County Comptroller Kevin Hardwick. With the Legislature's vote, the Erie County Sheriff's Office can sign a four-year agreement with the Buffalo Sabres to staff all KeyBank Center events,. If concluded, the Sabres will pay an escalating sum, equivalent to $1.38 million over the term of the contract.
