While the Dallas Stars decided to stand pat at the trade deadline earlier this week, the Columbus Blue Jackets seem to have waived the white flag on the season. More on that in a minute, though. So it appears that the Dallas Stars have forgotten how to win a game past the 60 minute mark.
The Dallas Stars can’t win a Stanley Cup playoffs spot in the next six games. However, they can lose one. It will all come down to whether they can shake off whatever bad mojo they’re dealing with and make that move to shut down the suffering Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings.
Though the Stars have played three fewer games than the Predators, their 2-12 mark in games decided in overtime or a shootout is a big reason for the club's current status. After outscoring Chicago and Florida 9-2 to win consecutive games, the Stars fell 3-2 at Nashville in a shootout on Sunday and 3-2 in overtime versus Florida on Tuesday. "You have to make your own luck at times," said Dallas star Joe Pavelski, who has recorded just two of his team-leading 16 goals over the last 17 games.
