Tracking the teams and players participating in NHL Pride nights, what's behind the controversy and examining some common misconceptions.
When the Flyers climb onto the buses before heading to the arena, they've got their game day suits on — and their coffees in hand. While they might not be among the rush of the traditional 9-to-5 crowd, the Flyers need a jolt to their system before they head into work each day. From getting themselves up for a back-to-back or from a nap after morning skate, the Flyers are fueled by caffeine as they try to keep up the pace through an 82-game season. Center Scott Laughton may enjoy exploring coffee shops with his wife in his free time, but on a game day, he doesn't go out for coffee.
The Ottawa Senators stayed afloat in the race for a wild card spot with an overtime victory against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday (March 30). Alex DeBrincat potted the winner just under two minutes into the extra frame to keep them within five points of the playoff line. DeBrincat and the Senators benefited from a costly turnover by Flyers netminder Felix Sandstrom in overtime, with Claude Giroux forcing the mistake that ultimately secured the extra point for Ottawa. “I think Claude was forechecking pretty hard and made him put it there,” DeBrincat told reporters in the arena.
