The fourth line on an NHL team usually has a different build than the rest of the lineup. The final trio of forwards usually includes some bigger bodies and hard hitters, meant to swing the game by checking and grinding out shifts, Devils head coach Lindy Ruff follows that philosophy, and it went into his decision to use Janne Kuokkanen, Michael McLeod and Nathan Bastian on the fourth line to start the season.

Yegor Sharangovich and Jon Merrill now have something in common. Prior to Saturday, the former Devils defenseman was the only player in franchise history to score his first career goal in overtime. It took Merrill 31 games to get that goal during the 2013-14 season.
