When discussing Stanley Cup contenders out of the Western Conference, teams such as the Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers are often brought up. One who seems to slip through the cracks, however, is the Dallas Stars. Despite the lack of recognition, the Stars are an incredible team.
March has been good to the Dallas Stars, Saturday evening notwithstanding. Dallas is a respectable 8-4-1. Miro Heiskanen is on the most productive stretch of his career, with 21 points in 13 games. Not only does that lead the team for the month, but against Pittsburgh on Thursday, Heiskanen set a franchise record for the longest point streak by a defensemen.
While nothing is set in stone, the Seattle Kraken are well positioned to make their first-ever playoff appearance. With the current chaotic state of the Western Conference, the Kraken could reasonably be matched up with any five out of the seven other Western playoff teams. The playoff picture in the Central Division is far from settled, with the Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, and Colorado Avalanche all within one point of the division lead.
