    Capitals desperate for win against lowly Blackhawks

    The Washington Capitals need to reverse course in a hurry if they wish to punch their ticket to the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season. Losers of three in a row and six of their last eight, the Capitals (33-31-8, 74 points) aim to get back on track Thursday when they host the Chicago Blackhawks (24-40-6, 54 points). Washington was left smarting after squandering an early three-goal lead and a late one-goal advantage in a 7-6 overtime setback to the NHL-worst Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. The Capitals allowed a tying goal with 46.9 seconds remaining in the third period before Columbus native Jack Roslovic scored in overtime.

    Alex Ovechkin's latest record proves, again, that he's not slowing down

    Tuesday night at Capital One Arena began with a celebration for Alex Ovechkin passing Gordie Howe for No. 2 on the NHL's all-time goals list. Washington's captain scored his 40th goal of the season on Tuesday night — the 13th time in his career he's accomplished that feat — passing Wayne Gretzky for the most 40-goal seasons in NHL history.

    Capitals celebrate cherry blossoms with new warmup jersey

    The Washington Capitals unveiled a cherry blossom-themed warmup jersey they will don on April 2 against the New York Rangers. The jersey was designed by D.C.-based artist Taylor Kampa Olson. Olson specializes in painting abstracts and portraits as well as large murals and custom jackets. The jersey and signed pucks with the cherry blossom design will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.
