Islanders' Kyle Palmieri Proving His Worth

The New York Islanders acquired Kyle Palmieri from the New Jersey Devils along with Travis Zajac on April 8, 2021, and signed him to a four-year extension worth $20 million. While Palmieri was a key part of the team's 2021 Playoff run, he has struggled to find the same offensive consistency since then. Islanders' Pierre Engvall adding new dimension to new attack

Pierre Engvall's turbulent start to his Islanders career is a thing of the past. The winger, who was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs at the trade deadline last month felt the brunt of the growing pains of transitioning from a free-style, run-and-gun offensive brand up north to the Islanders' defensive, structured style of the game. “There were some certain things that he's still getting used to,” head coach Lane Lambert said earlier this month. Finding his niche with linemates Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri, Engvall has scored five goals and two assists in his last nine games, including the Islanders' lone regulation goal in a 2-1 shootout victory over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night in D.C.

Islanders Are the Eastern Conference's Dark Horse Contender

The New York Islanders have spent most of this season battling to clinch a berth in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Despite a season with inconsistent results, the Islanders look to be locking their game in at the right time. Recently, they put the Metropolitan Divison on notice with a 5-1 statement win over the New Jersey Devils. With each playoff season bringing forward its own surprises, it isn't out of the question to call the Islanders the dark horse favorite in the Eastern Conference this year.
