The Colorado Avalanche are coach Jared Bednar’s team. GM Joe Sakic has indicated that Bednar, the emergency hire last summer when Patrick Roy up and quit, “deserves an opportunity” to get a second year and that he intends to build a roster better suited for his systems. Colorado announced it’s not bringing back assistant coaches Tim Army and Dave Farrish, nor are they bringing back goalie coach Francois Allaire.
Arsenal’s majority shareholder Stan Kroenke has issued a statement regarding his future ownership of the club. The American billionaire was at the center of fan unrest on Sunday as Arsenal finished fifth in the Premier League, missing out on a top four finish for the first time in 21 seasons under Arsene Wenger. Kroenke’s fellow Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov (he owns 30 percent of the shares) last week offered over $1.3 billion for Kroenke’s 67 percent stake in the Gunners but Kroenke turned the bid down.
A unit of the Fox Sports cable TV channel is buying a Denver company that markets sports-team and stadium sponsorships. Denver’s Impression Sports & Entertainment is becoming part of Home Team Sports (HTS), an advertising sales business of Fox Sports. Terms were not disclosed. Impression Sports is the business that got financial company Transamerica Corp. to be jersey sponsor of the Colorado Rapids soccer teams. It also sold outdoor gear retailer Camping World on putting its name on an Orlando, Florida football stadium and on the college football season’s opening game. The company counts Kroenke Sports and Entertainment, owner of the Denver Nuggets basketball and Colorado Avalanche hockey teams,
