Alex Tuch had his second career hat trick, Jeff Skinner had a goal and an assist, and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-3 on Saturday night. Jordan Greenway and Kyle Okposo also scored, and Casey Mittelstadt added three assists for Buffalo in its fourth win in five games. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 39 saves.
When looking ahead to next season, the Flyers can't expect to make any significant gains unless they do something about their inconsistent team defense. While their 249 goals allowed this season after Saturday night's 6-3 loss to Buffalo might not look too bad on paper, it's their on one night, off another defense efforts which must keep their coaches up at night. In its last 15 games, Philadelphia has surrendered at least five goals in seven of those matches. The setback to the Sabres at the Wells Fargo Center ended the Flyers' seven-game streak (5-0-2) of at least a point.
Ottawa Senators forward Derick Brassard will miss the remainder of the season after having surgery for a broken fibula on Saturday. Brassard sustained the injury after getting tangled up with Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Felix Sandstrom and defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen late in the second period of Thursday's game in Ottawa.
