The Calgary Flames have not started out on fire to begin the 2020-21 season, but the addition of Chris Tanev in the top four has brought stability to the defensive core. Signed to a four-year deal worth $4.5 million annually during the offseason, Tanev was hardly brought in to produce points at a high pace, but his steady defensive prowess has helped at five-on-five and the penalty kill.
The Calgary Flames used a balanced scoring attack, getting goals from six players in a 6-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Juuso Valimaki, Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm, Sean Monahan, Andrew Mangiapane and Matthew Tkachuk scored for the Flames, who ended Ottawa’s three-game win streak. Drake Batherson, Colin White and Brady Tkachuk replied for the last-place Senators.
