2017-18 NHL Preview: Ottawa Senators face uphill battle for playoff spot

The Ottawa Senators enjoyed an incredible 2016-17 season, finishing just one goal shy of upsetting the Pittsburgh Penguins to earn a trip to the Stanley Cup Final. The Senators are likely going to be in a dog fight for a playoff spot in 2017-18. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to be the powerhouses of the Atlantic Division, and the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers will represent tough competition as well.

Brian Boyle 'completely blown away' by support offered after leukemia diagnosis

So other than the poopy Mike Johnston season of 43 wins in 2014-15, they’ve gone above 47 wins each and every season this decade with a full schedule. I would be hammering that number big time for the over for the Pens before the line moves up...For entertainment purposes only of course. The gamble would probably be that Matt Murray holds up, and injuries to big stars don’t strike, but even though the Pens have had more than their share of injuries, getting to 47+ hasn’t been an issue in the recent past. Any other sure winners out there? A lot of the stats people
