Cam Talbot was benched during the best run of his NHL career, assigned to being the Wild's backup when the team started the playoffs before making a last-ditch, pinch-hit effort in a season-ending loss to the Blues. But the goaltender wants to remain with the Wild and with another year left on his contract, he expects to stick around. "Unless they have something else planned," Talbot said, "I plan on being back here in September."
Kevin Fiala just had his best season, scoring and helping set up more goals than he ever has before in the NHL. But his return to the Wild isn't a given, not with the winger on an expiring contract and the team facing a tight budget. "There's no other answer than 'We'll see,'" Fiala said Monday at Xcel Energy Center when asked about his future.
But 10 days and six games later, their season is over after losing to the St. Louis Blues. "It doesn’t matter what you do in the regular season, how good your regular season is. Once you get to the playoffs and you’re not performing, you’re out.
