At the time of this writing, the Detroit Red Wings have a 21-19-8 record and are seven points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Although Detroit has taken a step in the right direction, it is becoming rather apparent that their playoff hopes are significantly low at this portion of the year. Due to this, there are now rumblings that the Red Wings are interested in a star forward from the San Jose Sharks. Earlier this season, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reported that the Sharks are willing to hear offers for just about every player on their roster besides Tomas Hertl.
The Red Wings are pleased that attendance is up this season. A flurry of offseason free-agent signings and the emergence last year of young players Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond generated more buzz around this team than we've seen in 6-7 years.
The Boston Bruins are accustomed to being near the top of the overall standings and being on the list of Stanley Cup contenders. The Bruins are on pace to establish NHL records for most wins (63) and points (133), marks held by the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings (62 wins, 131 points) and 2018-19 Tampa Bay Lightning (62 wins). Neither of those teams won the Cup, so while the Bruins might be the favorites at the All-Star break, as many as a dozen teams could make a run at the title, including defending champion Colorado, which is tied for 13th in points percentage.
