Henrik Zetterberg and Richard “Rip” Hamilton are among Michigan's most beloved sports icons, making a lasting impact on the state's sports history with their exceptional contributions to the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons. Both athletes were the standout honorees in this year's professional category. Zetterberg, who played his entire career for the Red Wings, was instrumental in securing the team's 2008 Stanley Cup victory, earning the coveted Conn Smythe Trophy in the process.
Detroit − Richard "Rip" Hamilton and his Pistons teammates would come downtown occasionally to practice at Detroit Mercy's Calihan Hall. Hamilton wishes he could do what today's Pistons do: Play in downtown Detroit. "Oh, my goodness, I would love to," Hamilton said with a big grin.
