Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon has talked extensively this offseason about giving young players an opportunity to play and trying to create a faster, more up-tempo, aggressive roster. One of the young players that might get an opportunity to make that sort of an impact is 2014 second-round draft pick Jayce Hawryluk. Throughout his junior days in the Western Hockey League, Hawryluk developed a reputation for being the type of player you to have on your team and absolutely hate to play against — in other words, a classic pest.
The Nashville Predators have signed restricted free-agent forward Viktor Arvidsson to a seven-year, $29.75 million contract, avoiding arbitration. The 24-year-old Arvidsson, tied for the Predators lead in goals (31) and points (61) during the 2016-17 season and added 13 points in 22 playoff games. Jordan Martinook and the Arizona Coyotes also avoided a hearing with the 24-year-old left wing inking a new two-year deal worth $3.6 million. Martinook scored 11 goals and added 14 in 77 with the Coyotes last season. The Calgary Flames re-signed goaltending prospects Jon Gillies and David Rittich to one-year, two-way contracts.
