Needing a win to remain in the hunt for one of the last Eastern Conference playoff spots, Phaneuf scored both of Toronto's power play goals to help the Maple Leafs to a 3-1 win over Carolina. Phaneuf and Tyler Bozak(notes) scored 12 seconds apart midway through the second period to break a 1-1 tie.
With 10:07 left in the third period, Zetterberg scored his second goal of the night to snap a 2-2 tie and give Detroit a 3-2 win and end the Washington Capitals' nine-game win streak.
