With NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. in town for Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway, the Phoenix Coyotes are all over him like a pit crew on a ragged tire. (Excuse us, stewardess, but we speak NASCAR ...)
Dale Jr. debuted his special No. 88 Diet Mountain Dew/National Guard Chevrolet at last night's 5-4 victory over the Calgary Flames. (No word if they both counted towards the 11,117 tickets distributed for the game.) The Coyote are also running a No. 88 ticket special for tonight's game against the St. Louis Blues.
NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was on hand Friday night, displaying the new color scheme on his car. He received a No. 88 autographed jersey from the Coyotes.
We're still debating if the commemorative gift sweater is a Foul or not. Might depend on if you frame it or wear it.
Here's the scene has Dale Jr. rolled onto the ice. Hey, it's not Erin Andrews at a Blue Jackets game, but it'll do.
What's cool about the car is that a fan designed the color scheme as part of a contest, winning out over 10,000 submissions.
Check out our friend Jay Busbee on From The Marbles this weekend for more from Dale Jr. Now that No. 88's attended an NHL game, the next step in the NASCAR/hockey synergy experiment should be a Dan Carcillo(notes) vs. Jimmie Johnson fight at center ice. Because you could sell that on pay-per-view.
