Wow, guess the Los Angeles Kings really didn't want Mathieu Schneider after all.

The Anaheim Ducks have sent their salary cap casualty ($5.625 million cap hit) to the Atlanta Thrashers for defenseman Ken Klee ($1.25 million and a UFA next summer) and forwards Brad Larsen ($535,000 and a UFA) and Chad Painchaud. Teemu Selanne thanks you for the training camp health insurance, Mr. Waddell ... even if the Ducks still have to trim a little more salary, according to the Toronto Star.

Atlanta blogger Ben Wright is happier than Bobby Cox in Havana, and not just because Ken Klee is gone: He believes Schneider, Ron Hainsey, Tobias Enstrom and Niclas Havelid give the Thrashers "arguably the strongest foursome in the Southeast Division." Scary part is that he might be right.

So the Ducks are close to fitting Selanne in, the Thrashers could have a power play that cracks the Top 20 in the NHL and the Kings still have $24.757 million in cap space. Which is perfect if, you know, they want to trade for Giambi or something.
