As we mentioned in tonight's Puck Headlines, Alexander Ovechkin ended two days in which the Toronto media endlessly pestered him about his goal celebrations and "feud" with Don Cherry by making a fashion statement.
Capitals Insider reported that AO rocked a "Coach's Corner" T-shirt along with a pair of quite loud "Hockey Night in Canada" shorts. Welcome To the Show, the Washington Capitals' media relations blog, added this nugget of additional info:
Ovi had one addition to the shirt: "RESPECT" written in black marker on the back, a sign of the respect he has for both Don Cherry and his opponents.
We were underwhelmed with Cherry's last critique of Ovechkin, so perhaps this back-and-forth has finally gone past its expiration date now that Alex has dipping into comedy (as opposed to self-parody, which was his 50th goal celebration).
Or perhaps Cherry will rip him a new one this weekend for desecrating a Coach's Corner shirt. One of the two.
Ovechkin had a goal and an assist tonight, but the Capitals lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a shootout, 3-2, with Ovechkin failing on the last attempt. The Capitals pulled into a tie with the New Jersey Devils for the No. 2 seed (the Devils have two games in hand), and now return home this Friday night to play the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Wonder if the fans will pick up on the "RESPECT" T-shirt trend Ovechkin's started tonight. If they're looking for a fresh new Ovie shirt, look no further. OBEY!
