James Gordon of the Ottawa Citizen has posted some of the images found in "public document filings in the lead-up to the 2008/2009 NHL season" (gotta love a smart reporter move like that), which reveal interesting alternate logos for the Ottawa Senators, Phoenix Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers (for their 30th anniversary in 2009).
Of particular interest is this logo for the Los Angeles Kings, which almost perfectly fits the description reporter Howard Berger gave for the team's new third jersey: "The Kings will unveil a predominantly black jersey with the letters 'L A' inside a pencil-point logo on the front."
There was a good discussion of this potential logo on Rich Hammond's Inside the Kings blog. Icethetics offered some speculative images on what the Kings' sweater might look like, and as you can see this image is damn close. Also on Icethetics: A potential schedule for the debuts of these new third-jerseys. Interesting stuff, as they're coming in waves.
Gordon writes that he actually has "reason to believe this one will end up on a third jersey this year," but that these images from public filings aren't sure things, "as companies have registered a lot of graphics that ended up on the scrap heap in the end." (Gordon's also our victim for today's "5 ways I'd change the NHL," which will run within the hour.)
