Remember what the world was like before Dan Hamhuis(notes) was treated like the second coming a Ray Bourque, with desperate suitors dealing away valuable assets just to have the honor of speaking to him without interruption?
Neither do we.
Despite the best (or not) efforts of the Flyers and Penguins, Hamhuis decided to sign closer to home, something many suspected he might do when it became obvious he wouldn't be returning to Nashville.
The deal works out to be six years for $27.5 million, and along with the acquisition of Keith Ballard(notes) at the NHL draft last weekend, provides further depth for the Canucks' blue line. Those moves also likely spell the end of Kevin Bieksa's(notes) time in Vancouver. Bieksa has one year left at $3.75 million and looks to be the odd-man out in the revamped Canucks' defense.
