Counting everyone in the 2007 NHL Draft class, Perron ranks behind only Chicago star Patrick Kane(notes) (67 goals, 202 points in 217 games) and Edmonton's Sam Gagner(notes) (42 goals, 122 points in 207 games) in overall scoring. Perron has 43 goals and 108 points in 198 games.
Perron also made an impression off the ice today, and for a good cause: Telling his Twitter followers that "from now til end of the month, I will donate 1$ for each follower I get to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund."
As of 4:50 p.m. EST, his followers were creeping over the 6,800 mark for @DP_57. Get on Twitter, follow him and tell your friends to do the same. Perron's due to make $875,000 this season, so we're going to need a lot of tweeters to make this campaign blissfully ironic for him.
After the NHL was mocked for donating $100,000 to the Haitian relief effort after last months earthquake, the NHLPA and its members have stepped up their efforts: Not only with Hockey for Haiti auctions on eBay but in joining the One Team effort with the NFL Players Association, National Basketball Players Association and Major League Baseball Players Association, in conjunction with the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. Donate here, and check out the One Team PSA:
As we've said before: The depths of the charitable and community-building work these guys do away from the rink is underappreciated, underreported and really inspiring.
