Wayne Gretzky finally pays homage to the legendary Michael Scott

Thursday marked TNT’s first-ever night of NHL playoff coverage, and they kicked it off with a bang.

To get things going, Wayne Gretzky was shown with the Stanley Cup, holding a sign featuring a reference to a popular scene from the sitcom "The Office" where main character Michael Scott hilariously tries to claim The Great One's “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” quote as his own — finally paying his respects to the viral meme years after it was created.

In case you're unfamiliar with "The office," this is what was written on main character Michael Scott's white board during the infamous episode:

After the fun beginning, the panel got into some more serious debates, including Gretzky saying that he believes the New York Rangers' controversial non-goal in Game 1 should have counted. The goal, which was scored by Filip Chytil, ended up being called back due to goaltender interference.

Had it counted, the Rangers would have found themselves up 4-3 with just three minutes remaining in the third. Instead, the game remained 3-3 and didn’t end until Evgeni Malkin tipped a puck past Igor Shesterkin in triple overtime to give the Penguins a 1-0 series lead.

While plenty will disagree on Gretzky’s take, it is always very interesting to hear from the greatest player to ever play the game. He, along with the rest of the TNT crew, have done a great job at analyzing the game while also giving their audience plenty of laughs, something we can likely expect to see continue throughout the remainder of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs and beyond.
