The NHL has postponed Thursday’s scheduled game between the Vegas Golden Knights and St. Louis Blues after a player and an additional member of the Golden Knights coaching staff were required to enter the NHL’s COVID-related protocols.

According to the league’s press release, recent testing “warranted more caution” and time to analyze testing in the coming days.

The Golden Knights were without their entire coaching staff in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Blues on Tuesday after being instructed to self-isolate “out of an abundance of caution.” Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon, who stepped behind the bench in place of the coaching staff, said there were positive tests inside the organization, but none among the players.

Regardless, it does certainly beg the question if the league was correct to move forward with that game after positive tests were found among members of the coaching staff.

Vegas’s training facilities have been shut down and plans for games included on the immediate schedule will be made in the next few days.

Until then, the team will continue to follow the guidelines outlined for them.

Vegas and St. Louis are now included among several teams that have had their schedules impacted by COVID-19 protocols, but the first from the West Division. To this point most problems and scheduling alterations have involved the Central Division, with Dallas, Carolina and Florida being among those most affected.
