NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBC Sports EDGE's player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.
Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).
Wednesday has five games on the slate, including an early afternoon matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, which will conclude their regular-season schedules.
Connor McDavid (Edmonton) - C - $9,200 (FanDuel), $9,000 (DraftKings), $36 (Yahoo)
McDavid is coming off a regular-season performance for the ages. He amassed 33 goals and 105 points in a mere 56 games. McDavid also had a whopping seven goals and 22 points in nine appearances versus Winnipeg this year. The Oilers captain recorded a multi-point performance in each outing against the Jets. McDavid should be able to continue to roll in Game 1 on Wednesday night.
Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado) - C - $8,800 (FanDuel), $8,600 (DraftKings), $35 (Yahoo)
MacKinnon accumulated two goals, one assist, six shots and five hits in Game 1 against St. Louis on Monday night. He has been a handful for the Blues all year after he had six goals and 14 points over eight matches versus the Blues during the regular season. MacKinnon has big fantasy point potential again entering Game 2 on Wednesday.
Teuvo Teravainen (Carolina) - W - $6,000 (FanDuel), $5,100 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo)
Teravainen scored a goal and posted three shots in Monday’s Game 1 win over Nashville. He has produced 11 goals and 16 points in his last 24 playoff matches. Teravainen can be used on his own as a solid mid-tier option or stacked with linemate Sebastian Aho.

Nurse had a breakout year in 2020-21, while producing 16 goals, 36 points, 154 shots, 100 blocks and 117 hits in 56 games. His category coverage and scoring ability should land him on lineups for Wednesday night’s playoff opener versus Winnipeg. Nurse racked up two goals, eight assists and 22 shots on target in nine matches against the Jets this campaign.
Bargain Bin: Ryan Ellis (NSH) - $4,500 (FanDuel), $4,800 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo) Brett Pesce (CAR) - $4,000 (FanDuel), $3,300 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Dmitry Orlov (WSH) - $4,600 (FanDuel), $3,700 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Matt Grzelcyk (BOS) - $4,100 (FanDuel), $4,500 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo), Travis Hamonic (VAN) - $4,400 (FanDuel), $17 (Yahoo)
Mike Smith (Edmonton) - $7,900 (FanDuel), $7,900 (DraftKings), $36 (Yahoo)
The Oilers and Smith have a lot to prove following last year’s early exit in the bubble. Winnipeg was eliminated quickly as well, but there were different circumstances involved. Smith only lasted 26:32 before Mikko Koskinen took over for the rest of the series against Chicago. He has been excellent this season, though, and he will be looking to continue that success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Smith posted 4-0-0 record against Winnipeg in 2020-21 with 2.06 goals-against average, a .936 save percentage and one shutout.
