NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBC Sports EDGE's player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.
Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).
There are only two games scheduled for tonight.
William Nylander (Toronto) – W - $6,600 FanDuel, $5,600 DraftKings, $23 Yahoo
In a series where goals have been hard to come by, Nylander has managed to score in each of Toronto’s first three playoff games. He leads the Leafs with four points in the 2021 playoffs and he also was strong in the regular season with 17 goals and 42 points in 51 contests.
Ryan Johansen (Nashville) – C - $5,700 FanDuel, $3,500 DraftKings, $16 Yahoo
Johansen has found the back of the net in each of his last two games and is up to three goals and five points in his last five contests against Carolina, including his final regular season contest. He’s taken a step back in recent years, but at his current price point he’s a great option when he’s hot.
Jordan Staal (Carolina) – C - $4,900 FanDuel, $4,500 DraftKings, $17 Yahoo
A solid discount option, Staal contributed regularly during the 2020-21 campaign with 18 goals and 38 points in 53 games. Now in the playoffs he’s done even better with three goals and four points in four games.
Bargain Bin: Luke Kunin (NAS) - $4,600 FanDuel/$3,000 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Matt Duchene (NAS) - $4,500 FanDuel/$3,500 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Alexander Kerfoot (TOR) - $4,200 FanDuel/$2,800 DraftKings/$12 Yahoo, Erik Haula (NAS) - $4,100 FanDuel/$3,000 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo
Morgan Rielly (Toronto) - $5,600 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings, $19 Yahoo
Rielly is entering tonight’s contest on a four-game point streak that dates back to the regular season. He was strong during the 2020-21 campaign with five goals and 35 points in 55 contests and the step up to the playoffs hasn’t slowed him down any.
Bargain Bin: Ryan Ellis (NAS) - $4,500 FanDuel/$4,700 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Brett Pesce (CAR) - $4,400 FanDuel/$4,300 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo, Mattias Ekholm (NAS) - $4,000 FanDuel/$4,000 DraftKings/$17 Yahoo
Jack Campbell (Toronto) - $8,100 FanDuel, $8,100 DraftKings, $31 Yahoo
Obviously there aren’t a whole lot of options today in goal, but Campbell has done an amazing job so far. He’s guided the Maple Leafs to a 2-1 series lead with a 1.35 GAA and .951 save percentage in three playoff starts. Do note that at the time of writing, Campbell isn’t the confirmed Maple Leafs’ starter for Tuesday’s contest. It’s not unusual for coaches to be secretive about their starter in the playoffs, but there’s an added element of intrigue here because starting Campbell tonight will mean using him for the second straight day and third game in four days. That naturally also means that fatigue is a concern but, again, there’s not a lot of options tonight.
Bargain Bin: Juuse Saros (NAS) - $7,400 FanDuel/$7,500 DraftKings/$34 Yahoo
