NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBC Sports EDGE's player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.
Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).
There are eight games tonight, but the 6:30pm ET start between Buffalo and Boston won’t be counted in many leagues.
Mika Zibanejad (NY Rangers) – C - $8,000 FanDuel, $7,600 DraftKings, $29 Yahoo
Zibanejad has basically had two seasons. From his season debut through March 11 he was an enigma with just three goals and nine points in 25 contests. Then something finally clicked and he’s scored 13 goals and 30 points in his last 20 games. That’s made him an easy choice whenever he’s an option for the last month.
Brayden Point (Tampa Bay) – C - $7,000 FanDuel, $5,700 DraftKings, $25 Yahoo
Point has been a pretty steady contributor lately, only being held off the scoresheet once in his last five games. He’s also having a solid season in general with 19 goals and 38 points in 45 contests. Not bad numbers for his price point.
John Tavares (Toronto) – C - $6,700 FanDuel, $7,100 DraftKings
Tavares has endured some considerable cold stretches this season, but he certainly isn’t in one right now. Instead he seems to have hit his stride with four goals and 12 points in his last eight contests. That gives him 14 goals and 40 points in 45 games this season. Note that at the time of writing, there wasn’t any price for Tavares in Yahoo daily leagues.
Andrei Svechnikov (Carolina) – W - $5,900 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings, $21 Yahoo
Goals can come in bunches and Svechnikov is enjoying one such instance of that right now. He’s going into Tuesday’s action riding a three-game goal scoring streak. He’s up to 13 goals and 32 points in 44 games in 2020-21.
Bargain Bin: Patric Hornqvist (FLA) - $5,700 FanDuel/$7,100 DraftKings/$21 Yahoo, Jason Robertson (DAL) - $4,900 FanDuel/$6,000 DraftKings/$21 Yahoo, Alex Killorn (TBL) - $4,600 FanDuel/$3,600 DraftKings/$12 Yahoo, Dustin Brown (LAK) - $4,600 FanDuel/$5,900 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo, Jared McCann (PIT) - $4,500 FanDuel/$5,600 DraftKings/$20 Yahoo, Alex Iafallo (LAK) - $4,400 FanDuel/$5,700 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo
Dougie Hamilton (Carolina) - $6,700 FanDuel, $7,200 DraftKings, $27 Yahoo
Expensive but worth it. Hamilton has six goals and 36 points in 44 games, including 25 points in his last 25 contests. There aren’t many defensemen in the league who can match him offensively.
John Klingberg (Dallas) - $5,400 FanDuel, $5,800 DraftKings, $19 Yahoo
Klingberg is on a five-game point streak going into Tuesday’s contest against the Detroit Red Wings. He’s scored seven goals and 31 points in 43 games this season, so even when he’s not hot, he’s worth considering at his current price.
Bargain Bin: Mikhail Sergachev (TBL) - $4,500 FanDuel/$5,400 DraftKings/$16 Yahoo, Miro Heiskanen (DAL) - $4,400 FanDuel/$5,500 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo, Jaccob Slavin (CAR) - $3,900 FanDuel/$3,400 DraftKings/$18 Yahoo
Tristan Jarry (Pittsburgh) - $8,100 FanDuel, $8,300 DraftKings, $33 Yahoo
Jarry has been superb lately, allowing just seven goals over his last four starts. It certainly doesn’t hurt that today the Penguins will be up against New Jersey, who aren’t a particularly good team offensively.
Bargain Bin: Jake Oettinger (DAL) - $7,600 FanDuel/$8,200 DraftKings/$30 Yahoo
