NHL Plays: Thursday

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Forwards:

Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton) - C - $8,400 (FanDuel), $7,500 (DraftKings), $34 (Yahoo)

Draisaitl has scored a goal in each of his last four games, which includes his previous two meetings against Toronto this season. He has added two assists and 12 shots on goal during that span. Draisaitl is up to eight points in 12 career matches versus the Leafs.

Mitch Marner (Toronto) - W - $7,900 (FanDuel), $ (DraftKings), $29 (Yahoo)

Marner has amassed five goals and 12 points through eight contests this season. He has registered a multi-point performance in five of his past six outings, including each of the last three games. Marner has two goals and four assists during that three-game point streak. Additionally, he has eight points in 10 career outings versus Edmonton.

Joe Pavelski (Dallas) - C - $6,700 (FanDuel), $7,400 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo)

Pavelski has recorded at least one point in each of Dallas’ first three games. He has three goals and five helpers during that stretch. Pavelski also eight shots on goal to start the year and seven of his points have come on the power play.

Brayden Point (Tampa Bay) - C - $7,600 (FanDuel), $7,100 (DraftKings), $31 (Yahoo)

Point hasn’t been held off the scoresheet either to begin the 2020-21 campaign. He has two goals and three assists over a four-game point streak. Point has also been credited with 16 shots on target and he has played well against Carolina during his career. He has five goals and 11 points in 10 previous matches versus the Hurricanes.

Travis Konecny (Philadelphia) - W - $6,900 (FanDuel), $5,200 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo)

Konecny has only been held off the scoresheet twice in seven games to start the season. He has five goals, three assists and 13 shots in seven contests. Konecny has more goals (7) against New Jersey than any other opponent. He added an assist versus the Devils on Tuesday to give him 11 points in 17 career matches against New Jersey.

Patric Hornqvist (Florida) - W - $5,600 (FanDuel), $4,700 (DraftKings), $19 (Yahoo)

Hornqvist has found the back of the net in each of his first three games with the Panthers. He has four goals and one assist during that span along with eight shots on target. Hornqvist kept his streak in the final seconds of Tuesday’s shootout win and he has been a good fit alongside Jonathan Huberdeau.

Defensemen:

Cale Makar (Colorado) - $6,000 (FanDuel), $6,000 (DraftKings), $26 (Yahoo)

Makar is coming off a three-assist effort against San Jose on Tuesday. He currently has eight helpers through seven matches as well as 13 shots on goal. Makar shouldn’t be held goalless much longer. He has one goal and four points in two career games versus the Sharks.

John Klingberg (Dallas) - $5,900 (FanDuel), $6,300 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo)

Klingberg has one goal and five assists during a three-game point spree to begin the 2020-21 campaign. He has five shots, three hits and two blocks as well. Klingberg has collected five of his six points on the power play. He had one goal and one helper in Tuesday’s win over Detroit to give him 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 11 career games versus the Red Wings.

Bargain Bin: Quinn Hughes (VAN) - $5,500 (FanDuel), $5,900 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Justin Schultz (WSH) - $4,000 (FanDuel), $3.300 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Jeff Petry (MTL) - $5,300 (FanDuel), $6,500 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo), Ivan Provorov (PHI) - $5,300 (FanDuel), $5,200 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo), Devon Toews (COL) - $4,600 (FanDuel), $5,600 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo)

Goaltenders:

Anton Khudobin (Dallas) - $8,200 (FanDuel), $8,400 (DraftKings), $37 (Yahoo)

Khudobin has a 3-0-0 record to kick off the year to go along with a 0.99 goals-against average, .958 save percentage and one shutout. He has turned aside 69 of 72 shots, including 20 in Tuesday’s 2-1 overtime victory over Detroit.

John Gibson (Anaheim) - $7,400 (FanDuel), $7,900 (DraftKings), $30 (Yahoo)

Gibson has not received much in the way of goal support, but that hasn’t stopped him from posting a 3-1-2 record this season. He has 1.67 goals-against average, .948 save percentage and two shutouts. Gibson blanked Arizona with 31 stops on Tuesday and offers plenty of bang for the buck upside in Thursday’s rematch.
