Michael Finewax gives you his Daily Fantasy picks for Sunday's action including taking Erik Gustafsson

DRAFT is back for another season of quick and exciting daily fantasy action. Their DFS platform offers poolies with a chance to participate in a format that most of us have grown very accustomed to over the years. You can compete in a live snake draft in which the participants take a player with each pick. Unlike other DFS games, this gives you the opportunity to use your knowledge to craft a team that no one else will have because the players you select cannot be chosen by your competition.

The draft is quick as you are allotted just 30 seconds per pick and you take five players. Your team is comprised of three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

Your strategy can be dictated by the positions being selected ahead of you. For instance, if you are going last and everyone else has a goaltender then you can wait until your last pick to make that selection. Of course, selecting players going up against weaker competition or players who are riding hot streaks are always popular strategies as well.

Forward Rankings

1. Patrick Kane

2. Alex Ovechkin

3. Nathan MacKinnon

4. Sebastian Aho

5. Teuvo Teravainen

6. Claude Giroux

7. Sean Couturier

8. Artemi Panarin

9. Alex DeBrincat

10. James van Riemsdyk

11. Elias Pettersson

12. Jonathan Toews

Go early and often when picking forwards. Kane is one of three players over 100 points this season (Nikita Kucherov and Connor McDavid being the others) and should go first overall despite Ovechkin being available this afternoon. Toews makes a nice pairing with Kane but later in the draft. Rantanen is not playing for Colorado as he is out with an upper-body injury so MacKinnon loses some value as the duo will not see power play time together (obviously). Couturier and Giroux are a nice combination as are Aho and Teravainen.

Defenseman Rankings

1. John Carlson

2. Erik Gustafsson

3. Seth Jones

4. Tyson Barrie

Carlson is the best blueliner but I wouldn’t take him before the third round while Gustafsson deserves to go quickly thereafter. Jones and Barrie are last round picks.

Goaltending Rankings

1. Braden Holtby

2. Thomas Greiss

3. Petr Mrazek

4. Corey Crawford

These are the projected goaltenders for Sunday. Holtby is the best bet if you are playing early as it is a 12:30 ET start for NBC. Greiss has a good matchup against Arizona which has lost four in a row. If Mzarek doesn’t play then McElhinney goes into this spot as the Hurricanes have been hot. Crawford has played well since his return from a concussion and faces the Avalanche for the second time in two days.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).

Thomas Greiss (New York Islanders) - G - $8,300 FanDuel

Erik Gustafsson (Chicago) – D - $5,800 FanDuel, $5,800 DraftKings

Alexander Edler (Vancouver) – D - $5,400 FanDuel, $6,100 DraftKings

James van Riemsdyk (Philadelphia) – W - $6,600 FanDuel

Nino Niederreiter (Carolina) – W - $6,100 FanDuel, $5,800 DraftKings

Brendan Perlini (Chicago) - W - $4,100 FanDuel, $4,500 DraftKings

Sebastian Aho (Carolina) – C - $7,200 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings

Curtis McElhinney (Carolina) – G - $7,800 FanDuel, $7,800 DraftKings

Greiss has the best matchup of the day and is well-priced.  Gustafsson has been a stud this season for Chicago and continues to impress while Edler has been strong of late with three goals and nine points in his last 10 games. Perlini has been playing with Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Strome and has given the Blackhawks a great second line. Perlini has eight goals and 10 points in his last 10 contests. Aho has been slumping of late and is due as he hit the 80-point mark on Saturday. Nino Niederreiter has been a stud with Carolina since his trade from Minnesota. If Greiss is unavailable in your DraftKings league, take McElhinney (or Mrazek if he starts for
