NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBCSports Edge’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.
Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while Draft Kings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL). Yahoo has a $200 cap for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).
There are 13 games in the NHL on Saturday. For some reason, Yahoo does not have the Ottawa-Edmonton available to select players.
Connor McDavid (Edmonton), C $10,100 (FanDuel), $8,600 (Draft Kings), $N/A (Yahoo)
The Oilers must be champing at the bit as they last played 10 days ago in a loss to Toronto. The Oilers still have the top-two scorers in the NHL in McDavid and Leon Draisaitl and I like McDavid better against the Senators as he should come out flying. McDavid has 53 points this season in 33 games and saw his four-game points streak end against the Maple Leafs.
Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh), C $6,200 (FanDuel), $6,300 (Draft Kings), $25 (Yahoo)
Malkin had a big opening game as he had a pair of goals and an assist after missing the start of the season with off-season knee surgery. Malkin was held off the scoresheet Thursday but sees first line power play time in addition to playing on the second unit with Jeff Carter and Kasperi Kapanen.
Jake Guentzel (Pittsburgh), W $9,400 (FanDuel), $7,100 (Draft Kings), $28 (Yahoo)
Guentzel has 35 points in 30 games to lead the Penguins in scoring missing six games last month with a broken knuckle. Guentzel was held off the scoresheet Thursday, the first time in 17 contests that he did not pick up a point. Look for Guentzel to get back on track Saturday as the Penguins are in San Jose to take on the Sharks.
Steve Stamkos (Tampa Bay), C/W $8,600 (FanDuel), $6,600 (Draft Kings), $28 (Yahoo)
Stamkos is having a great season with 18 goals and 45 points in 38 games. He has been the Lightning’s leading scorer this season with Nikita Kucherov on the sidelines for most of the season and is returning to his glory years of 2018-19 and earlier when he had 98 points including 45 goals. The Lightning take on Dallas who played on Friday, giving up seven goals to cross-state rival Florida.
Chris Kreider (New York Rangers), W $7,600 (FanDuel), $5,500 (Draft Kings), $22 (Yahoo)
Kreider scored a pair on Thursday including a shorthanded goal, the first in his NHL career. Kreider has 23 goals in 38 games and is poised to smash his career high of 28, done twice in the NHL, in 2016-17 and then two years later. He has 12 goals on the power play and has been a huge surprise this season as far as his goal scoring pace is concerned.
Bargain Bin: Anze Kopitar (Los Angeles), C $7,100 (FanDuel), $5,300 (Draft Kings), $21 (Yahoo), Peyton Krebs (Buffalo), C/W $3,000 (FanDuel), $2,500 (Draft Kings), $10 (Yahoo), Drake Batherson (Ottawa), W $7,000 (FanDuel) $5,700 (Draft Kings), $N/A (Yahoo), Andre Burakovsky (Colorado), W $6,100 (FanDuel), $4,600 (Draft Kings), $19 (Yahoo), Kyle Okposo (Buffalo), W $5,500 (FanDuel), $3,100 (Draft Kings), $17 (Yahoo)
Victor Hedman (Tampa Bay), $7,100 (FanDuel), $7,100 (Draft Kings), $25 (Yahoo)
Hedman is having a great season with 39 points in 39 games and that includes 32 helpers and seven goals. He is averaging 25 minutes per game and continues to be a force on the power play with two goals and 13 points. Hedman is a nice price in FanDuel and Yahoo.
Adam Fox (New York Rangers), $6,500 (FanDuel), $6,000 (Draft Kings), $24 (Yahoo)
Fox has only two assists in his last four games as the Rangers were out West all week, to move slightly under a point-per-game as he has 37 points in 38 contests, but the reigning Norris Trophy winner can break out at any time and Saturday against the Flyers is just as good a time as any as New York returns back to the East Coast to complete their five-game road trip.
Torey Krug (St. Louis), $5,300 (FanDuel), $5,400 (Draft Kings), $18 (Yahoo)
Krug has been hot of late as he has a six-game points streak in which he has two goals and seven points, giving the former Bruin six goals and 21 points this season in 32 games. Krug is the leader of the Blues blueline and 10 of his 21 points this season have come via the power play.
Tyson Barrie (Edmonton), $4,900 (FanDuel), $4,700 (Draft Kings), $N/A (Yahoo), Keith Yandle (Philadelphia), $4,000 (FanDuel), $3,300 (Draft Kings), $10 (Yahoo), Rasmus Sandin (Toronto), $3,600 (FanDuel), $2,800 (Draft Kings), $10 (Yahoo), Sean Durzi (Los Angeles), $5,000 (FanDuel), $2,600 (Draft Kings), $15 (Yahoo)
Darcy Kuemper (Colorado), $8,600 (FanDuel), $8,500 (Draft Kings), $31 (Yahoo)
Kuemper returns to Arizona for the first time since his off-season trade from the Coyotes to Colorado. This should be a big game for the netminder who played three-plus seasons with Arizona and often at an All-Star level. Kuemper has struggled at times this season as he is 16-5-1 but with an average 2.86 GAA and a so-so .905 save percentage. Expect Kuemper to be on his game against the injury-depleted Coyotes.
Alex Nedeljkovic (Detroit), $7,600 (FanDuel), $8,200 (Draft Kings), $28 (Yahoo)
Nedeljkovic has been okay in his first season with Detroit after an outstanding season with Carolina in 2020-21 as he was 15-5-3 with a 1.90 GAA and a .932 save percentage, compared to a 10-10-4 mark this season with a 2.84 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Granted, the Hurricanes were a lot better team than this season’s edition of the Red Wings and Detroit will get the Sabres at home on Saturday in what should be a good play for Nedeljkovic in DFS.
