NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.
Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check Rotoworld’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.
Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL).
There are 13 games on Saturday, but two are afternoon contests that we’re going to ignore.

Mark Scheifele (WPG) – C - $7,700 FanDuel, $6,300 DraftKings
Scheifele set new career-highs in 2018-19 with 38 goals and 84 points in 82 games and he’s looking very good this season too. He has a goal and eight points in five contests, including five points in his last two contests. Winnipeg is also playing against Chicago tonight, which isn’t expected to be a particularly strong team this season.
Ryan O'Reilly (STL) – C - $6,800 FanDuel, $6,500 DraftKings
O'Reilly has a goal and seven points in four contests this season. He’s coming off a superb game against Ottawa where he got four points. It’s still early, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he reaches the 70-point milestone for the second straight season.
Anthony Mantha (DET) – W - $6,200 FanDuel, $6,200 DraftKings
Mantha has held his own in each of his last two seasons, but the 2019-20 campaign might prove to be his breakout campaign. He’s already scored six goals and eight points in four contests. While he obviously won’t maintain that pace, it’s not surprising to see him take a step up at the age of 25. It also helps that he’s been averaging a career-high 19:35 minutes so far.
Tyler Bertuzzi (DET) – W - $5,600 FanDuel, $5,900 DraftKings
If you’re going to take Mantha, you may as well also take his linemate, Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi is having a great start too with three goals and six points in four games. It’s also worth noting that he’s averaging 20:02 minutes, which is a big jump from 16:31 minutes in 2018-19.
Andrei Svechnikov (CAR) – W - $5,400 FanDuel, $5,600 DraftKings
Svechnikov is on a four-game multi-point streak. He’s up to a goal and eight points in five contests this season. It’s worth noting that the Hurricanes and their opponent, the Blue Jackets, both played last night. Because Joonas Korpisalo started for Columbus on Friday, Elvis Merzlikins might make his second career start. Merzlikins allowed seven goals on 40 shots in his NHL debut.
Brock Nelson (NYI) – C - $5,200 FanDuel, $5,000 DraftKings
Nelson has two goals and three points in four games in 2019-20. This is his second game in as many days, but that’s also true for his opponent, the Florida Panthers. The Panthers used Sergei Bobrovsky on Friday, so this will probably be backup goalie Sam Montembeault’s first start of the season.
Joel Armia (MON) – W - $4,100 FanDuel, $4,200 DraftKings
Armia has scored three goals and four points in his last two games. He’s usually not that big of an offensive threat, but at that low price, he’s not a bad player to take a chance on in the hopes that his hot streak lasts a little longer.
Bargain Bin: Patrik Laine (WPG) - $7,900 FanDuel/$7,800 DraftKings, Mark Stone (VGK) - $7,500 FanDuel/$6,600 DraftKings, Gabriel Landeskog (COL) - $7,300 FanDuel/$7,600 DraftKings, Travis Konecny (PHI) - $6,400 FanDuel/$6,000 DraftKings, J.T. Miller (VAN) - $5,200 FanDuel/$4,500 DraftKings, Nikolaj Ehlers (WPG) - $4,900 FanDuel/$5,800 DraftKings
Dougie Hamilton (CAR) – D - $5,500 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings
Hamilton has been on fire with three goals and seven points in five contests this season. He’s on a three-game point streak and has only been held off the scoresheet once. He’s also averaging about 23 minutes per game, which would be a career-high if he maintains it.
Quinn Hughes (VAN) – D - $4,300 FanDuel, $4,200 DraftKings
Hughes is one of the most promising rookies of the 2019-20 campaign. He’s certainly gotten off to a strong start with a goal and three points in three games. He’s also averaging 20:26 minutes, which is the most for a rookie so far.
Bargain Bin: Kris Letang (PIT) - $7,100 FanDuel/$6,400 DraftKings, John Carlson (WAS) - $6,600 FanDuel/$6,500 DraftKings, Alex Pietrangelo (STL) - $5,800 FanDuel/$6,200 DraftKings, Ryan Suter (MIN) - $5,400 FanDuel/$4,500 DraftKings
Devan Dubnyk (MIN) – G - $7,800 FanDuel, $7,400 DraftKings
The Wild will be up against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, who are less intimidating offensively after the Phil Kessel trade coupled with the injury to Evgeni Malkin. Pittsburgh has averaged 2.75 goals per game, which puts them in a tie for 19th place offensively so far. Dubnyk has struggled, but he and the Wild are due for a win at this point, so I’m willing to gamble on them stopping the bleeding.
