Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds reportedly interested in buying Senators
The Melnyk family has been exploring the possibility of selling the Ottawa Senators, and potential bidders have already begun to line up for a shot at ownership.
Earlier on Wednesday, Toronto-based brothers Jeffrey and Michael Kimel “expressed an interest” in buying the team if and when it goes up for sale. But they're not the only big names in the running to make the franchise their own.
According to People, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds is very interested in buying the Senators, should the team go up for sale.
A source close to the famous actor informed People that Reynolds strongly believes the Senators should stay put in Ottawa, as a sale to another bidder could result in relocation.
There is an expectation that Anna and Olivia Melnyk, the daughters of late Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, could put the team up for sale in the coming month, as previously reported by the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch. Melnyk owned the Senators from 2003 until his passing in March 2022 at the age of 62 after a lengthy battle with an undisclosed illness. His daughters inherited the franchise and the Senators are currently in the early planning stages to build a new arena on the LeBreton Flats, closer to the city centre. They are reportedly also seeking to stay on board as minority owners.
The Senators are currently valued at $655 million, the 27th-highest figure in the NHL, according to Sportico.
On Tuesday, when a fan posted about the news of a potential sale of the Senators and asked Reynolds to be an owner, the Deadpool star replied with the hand-on-the-chin emoji, appearing interested in the prospect.
Ottawa Senators are for sale... Come be our owner :)

This would be the second time Reynolds gets involved in owning a professional sports team. In February 2021, the Vancouver native and American actor Rob McElhenney bought Welsh football club Wrexham AFC, which competes in the fifth tier of the English Football system.
A representative for Reynolds declined to comment when contacted by People.
