Welcome to the weekend hockey fans! Saturday offers up a big-time slate of 11 games around the NHL, which means there are going to be plenty of chances to make some bets! Thursday’s best bets piece got off to a rocky start with two losses, but I shall remain resilient.

Here is what I am looking at for Saturday night in the world of NHL betting:

Record to Date: 41-26 | Units +13.15

Detroit Red Wings @ Nashville Predators 8:30 PM ET

The Nashville Predators have been one of the most surprising teams this season. Many experts, myself included, thought this would be the year that the Predators declined and began to rebuild but have proved us wrong in recent weeks. More recently, the Predators are 6-3-1 over their last 10 games and have scored three or more goals in eight of those 10 games.

When the offense is clicking like that it's tough on the opposition to keep up because the goaltending has also been stout in the Music City. The Predators rank 9th in goals saved above expected this season at +9.7 and Juuse Saros has his fingerprints all over it. Saros is 21-11-2 on the season with a GAA of 2.42 and SV% of .924.

The Red Wings who are on the road for today's game are on the second half of a back-to-back and will obviously be traveling as well. What's worse is they had to play into overtime last night and lost to the Dallas Stars in a tight one, so morale could be low for Detroit. The Red Wings are also 5-11-3 on the road this season, which is not ideal.

Their top option in Alex Nedelijkovic started in that game so he's likely to rest tonight. If that is the case then Thomas Greiss is going to start. He hasn't been good this season, coming in with a GAA of 3.36 and SV% of .894. You don't need to tell you that those two percentages are not great. It could be close, but the Puck Line on the Predators offers incredible plus money value, so I am going to take that shot with that tonight.

Calgary Flames @ Edmonton Oilers 10:00 PM ET

Anyone paying remote attention to the NHL right now knows that the Oilers are on the brink and are extremely pissy about it. Edmonton has seen themselves fall hard from grace and what was once a first-place team in the Pacific Division is now second to last.

They have lost seven straight games and are 2-7-1 over their past 10 games. The record doesn’t tell the whole story though as the defense is just getting gashed right now. The Oilers have allowed 23 goals over the previous five games coming into tonight. I think it’s going to get worse before it gets any better. Mikko Koskinen is projected to start tonight. He holds a GAA of 3.33 and SV% of .895 -- both stats are well below league standards. The Oilers are also 25th in the league in goals saved above expected at -6.9 on the season. Yea, things are going poorly for the Oilers.

The visiting team, the Calgary Flames, are enjoying life much more right now. The Flames are one of the few teams that play better on the road than at home. Calgary is 13-7-2 as the away team this season and are probably looking forward to this trip to Edmonton as they’ve been through the ringer lately. They have gone up against some of the top teams in the Panthers, Hurricanes and Lightning over the past couple of weeks.

It appears Jacob Markstrom will start tonight for the Flames which is great news as he's been one of the best netminders in the NHL this season. Markstrom is 13-8-5 on the season with a GAA of 2.18 and SV% of .926. This will be just the second meeting between these teams on the season. Edmonton won the first meeting way back in mid-October, but many things have changed since.

The NBC Sports Edge predictor engine has the Flames to win in its highest confidence level for tonight. At the time of this writing, the model is 99-44 in such Money Line picks on the season. Given the trends, stats and game predictor confidence, I am going to follow suit and take the Flames on the line tonight and continue to watch the Oilers burn out.

Roman Josi, Nashville Predators Player Prop

Let’s go back to Nashville and pick on the Red Wings some more. All the prevalent stats for the teams are already above in the first game prediction so let’s instead focus on the player here. Roman Josi is the Nashville Predators, like how Ovechkin is the Capitals or Sidney Crosby is the Penguins.

He is the face of the franchise and everything on the ice seems to run through him. Josi ranks third in points among blueliners this season and has a total of 42 points over 40 games on the season. He’s the quarterback of the power play as well that ranks sixth in the NHL as well which helps things move along. He averages 25 minutes of ice time per game, which is the 12th highest mark in the league. In a game that the Predators should score at least 3 goals, Josi will find his way on to the stat sheet as he often does this season.

With PointsBet current setting the odds to -120, I like the veteran to notch at least one assist in this contest.

The Picks:

Nashville Predators -1.5 (+110 on PointsBet)

Calgary Flames Money Line (-120 on PointsBet)

Roman Josi Over 0.5 Assists (-120 on PointsBet)
