It’s always a tough task for rookie offensive lineman to earn their rightful respect when those who play the many “skill” positions always get more attention and time in the spotlight. Of course, for many, a highlight reel touchdown catch by a rookie wideout or a massive run by a first-year running back is much more exhilarating to watch. But I’m here to tell you that just because it’s more exciting, doesn’t make it any more impressive.
The offensive explosion that took place Sunday afternoon versus the Browns in which the Chargers posted an astonishing 47 points and 493 yards was in part because Slater was able to hold down the left side of the line for his second year quarterback Justin Herbert. After a solid performance against arguably the league’s best edge rusher, Slater has solidified himself as one of the premier rookies in the league.
Chargers guard Oday Aboushi is out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL in win over the Cleveland Browns.
