As a senior in 2020, Browning played both inside and outside linebacker, totaling 29 tackles (20 solo), three tackles for a loss, one sack, two passes defended, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. But it was his performance during Senior Bowl practices that significantly increased his draft stock. Browning’s athleticism affords him the ability to play in either a 4-3 or 3-4 defensive front and his college coaches played him in multiple roles.
Paton believes in draft and development as the core of a team's success. The reasons are obvious: it creates cost certainty and foundation pieces and helps develop a culture from the inside out. That said, nobody wins in the NFL without free agent enhancements.
If George Paton picks up the option for one or both, they will be under contract for the 2020 season. If he doesn’t, they’ll become unrestricted free agents. If this cut happens, they could sign with another team immediately instead of waiting for March 17th, which is what we recently saw with J.J. Watt after his release from the Texans.
