Denzel Mims might have to wait a little while before catching passes from Sam Darnold again. Mims, the team's second-round pick in April, was hurt earlier this week while running routes during drills. ''He really stretched himself out, and he felt something,'' Gase said.
The Jets might not need to rely on just one player to replace safety Jamal Adams. After Adams was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in July, it left an All-Pro-sized hole on defense. The Jets acquired safety Bradley McDougald in that trade, and they also drafted safety Ashtyn Davis in the third round of April’s NFL Draft.
