A first look at Jets offense’s new priorities under John Morton

When the Jets offensive coordinator job came open in January, it looked about as attractive as a Siberian vacation. No established quarterback, a rebuilding offensive line, a 31-year-old running back, no tight end and a head coach who could be in his final year. Let’s just say coaches around the NFL were not lining up. But John Morton jumped at the chance to replace Chan Gailey and become the Jets’ new offensive coordinator. Why? “Opportunity,” Morton said. Morton, who was the Saints wide receivers coach for the past two years, had never interviewed for an offensive coordinator opening before Todd Bowles called. “I’ve been a position coach for almost 19 years, and I feel I’m ready,” Morton said.
