Saints' Nick Fairley ruled out for 2017 due to heart issue

METAIRIE, La. --? New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Nick Fairley was placed on season-ending injured reserve Monday, and his career appears to be in jeopardy because of a heart issue. Fairley, 29, has consulted with at least three specialists this offseason -- at least one of whom suggested he should no longer play football, according to Saints coach Sean Payton. Childress coached the Vikings from 2006 to 2010 before being fired 10 games into the 2010 season. In those 74 games, the Viking were 39-35 with two playoff appearances in 2009 and 2009, respectively. His best season as a coach came in 2009 when the Vikings went 12-4, advancing to the NFC Championship only to fall to the New Orleans Saints. Some would argue that the Vikings made it that far despite having Childress as a coach, but we won’t go there. Although there was plenty of friction between he and star quarterback Brett Favre. After his stint in Minnesota, Childress
