Shutdown Corner - NFL

On the day Deion Sanders received his Hall of Fame ring in Atlanta, rookie sensation Cam Newton(notes) paid homage to the Hall of Fame cornerback with a move of his own, imitating Prime Time's end zone dance after a go-ahead third-quarter touchdown against the Falcons.

Major props to 69-year-old Dick Stockton for instantly identifying the inspiration of Newton's dance moves.

Unless you went to Alabama, have some sort of weird crusade about the integrity of amateurism in college athletics or are a fan of one of the other three teams in the NFC South, you can't be anything but ridiculously excited about the prospect of watching Cam Newton play in the NFL for the next decade. Carolina Panthers games were barely a must-watch for fans in Charlotte over the past few seasons. Newton has now positioned Carolina as one of the most exciting teams in the league, and certainly the most thrilling 1-5 team in history.

Deion received his Hall of Fame ring during a halftime ceremony. Like Newton 22 years later, he made an instant impression on the NFL, returning a punt return for a touchdown in his first game.
